One of the hallmarks of Barbakan’s charm is its expansive outdoor seated terrace, reminiscent of a festive Christmas market on weekends. Here, traditional German sausages, fried potatoes and chorizo rice are served on colossal outdoor pans, enticing visitors with aromatic flavours and a convivial atmosphere.

At the heart of Barbakan’s offerings lies its artisanal bakery, which reveres traditional hand-moulding baking techniques. From French campagrain to Irish soda, Italian Contadina bread to German Norlander rye, and their signature Chorlton Sourdough, the bakery produces a diverse array of continental-style loaves.

Barbakan’s bakery extends its services to wholesale distribution, serving approximately 60 clients across the Greater Manchester area.

The accolades amassed by Barbakan over the years stand as a testament to its unwavering commitment to excellence. From Baking Industry Awards to Manchester Food and Drink Awards, the recent Female Business Award for Best Food and Drink outlet and a Great Taste Award for their German Norlander rye loaf, Barbakan continually receives recognition for its outstanding contributions to the culinary landscape.

Among Barbakan’s most beloved offerings are their traditional twice-baked Polish cheesecake, bagels, and Italian ciabatta sizzlers, each embodying the essence of authentic European flavours.

As a second-generation family business, Barbakan’s legacy thrives under the ownership of Frankie, who acquired the business from her parents, Joanna and Stefan Najduch, in 2021 after working with them for 10 years.
